You can get these done at by your participating stylist at your local salon that provides the service or find them at finefeatherheads.com and do them yourself. My friend had these done in her hair over the weekend and they look fab! It's very subtle and you can do as little or as many as you like!!!!! I'm thinking "less is more" so I'm planning to have a few thin strains added to my "do". The great thing about this < "hair art" you can manipulate the feathers to fit straight or curly styles! These look great with loose or sleek ponytails, chignons, in bangs, straight, wavy or naturally curly hair. These add an extra level of fun to plain ol' boring hair! Here are some pics I found online with the featherheads in the hair:
My friend's stylist added only a few thin strains to her hair, why I like a bit better then the ones in the pics above, at least for me.
This style definitely speaks to the stylist, chic, Bohemian princess in you! Would you try these? I'm excited to try these! What do you think?
There's no such thing as synthetic feathers...They are 100% real feathers.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I am a hair stylist and know for a fact that these are real feather and yes indeed...the birds died.
ReplyDeleteI have tried a few companies and these feathers are in pre-arranged bundles (not so good for that subtle look). I have fell in love with this trend and have settled on a brand called featherlocks which allows you to buy individual colors/selections and create your own "subtle" look
"Anonymous" is correct. There is no such thing as a synthetic feather. I have looked for many years and never found any.
ReplyDeleteIt seems impossible that they can harvest feathers without harming any birds.

ReplyDelete@anonymous- ill have to try that brand. I like the subtle look.
ReplyDeletei would try these. they look super cute and fun.

I have these in my hair right now! Each bundle is a few thin feathers and using one bundle is definitely subtle. Also, no birds are harmed in the making of these extensions! Thanks for posting this :)
ReplyDelete@Cheryl-- aren't they!
ReplyDelete@Natalie-- that is so cool and thanks for the post and the tip! I'm going to try them soon. I was delayed over the holiday.
Contact Trout Waters Fly & Tackle in Kelowna, BC, Canada for the best selection of feathers and incredible pricing for individual packs of feathers (12 feathers for $3.95) or large quantities.

ReplyDeleteThose feathers were genetically designed for fly fishermen to tie hand made flies. You're fad will die off long before hand tying. Therefore, stop buying them from band wagon jumping fad companies laughing at you all the way to the bank. Buy them from your local fly fishing shop. They're cheaper (for now) and it will keep the supply and demand where it belongs. Otherwise, the cost will skyrocket across the market.
ReplyDeletei agree with the person above. i do these hair extensions and due to the demand, even the fly fishing companies suppliers have double their prices since the beginning of the year. there is currently more demand than supply. fish shops and "hair feather" shops have also increased costs due to this.
ReplyDeleteThere are few to no feathers left! Actually the hair and fashion industry have whipped the market out! Fly fishermen will have to come to the salon soon to get there feathers. OXO
ReplyDeleteHow do you put these feather things in?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous-- They actaully come with a piece to thread them and you clamp to your hair. I have not tried to put them in yet. The lovely ladies at finefeatherheads.com have send me a sample and I plan to post a review on them really soon!
ReplyDeleteActually the birds are genetically bred to produce the best feathers possible and are SLAUGHTERED around 12-18 mths of age for their feathers. Companies like fine feather heads, feather locks, feather luxe, etc are buying them wholesale from breeders like whiting farms and selling them to salons and individuals. When the feathers come from the breeder they come in what is called a "saddle" which is the whole pelt of feathers from the rooster with the skin still attached! The feather companies detach the feathers from the pelt or skin and sell them individually to you! They are lying when they say no birds are harmed! They KNOW the birds are slaughtered! They are pulling the feathers off the skin for gods sake! In fact their is a shortage of feather "saddles" as we speak. All the birds for this season have already been slaughtered...so whiting farms is upping production of birds which means EVEN MOREbirds are going to die for this fad! Do your research! Don't let the feather dealers lie to you! Check out the whiting farms website or give them a call! Ask them what happens to the birds!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, Birds shed feathers regularly and they can be gathered and utilized many fly tyers who raise thier own birds do this. Whitings is a large operation and indeed does kill birds in as humane a way as possible after they reach a certain maturity. Usually these birds live much longer than your ordinary "food" birds, because the feathers need to develop. Also, they are raised under better conditions so they don't fight with each other and destroy the feathers. Many birds are allowed to live out thier lives as breeding stock if they exhibit desirable qualities. To my knowledge, there are no immortal chickens, so they are all going to die. Whats your point? I don't think anyone is lying to anyone here, but someone isn't telling the truth because they don't know the facts.
ReplyDeleteThese are so awesome.

Feather Hair Extensions
18 fab colors at featherhairextensionsonline.com $27 for 6 feathers. Also sells bult aumgle feathers.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like as soon as Stephen Tyler started wearing the feathers, the trend just boomed. I have to say though, I do really like this new fashion trend and hope that the supply lasts long enough for it to stick around awhile. Last I heard Donna Bella just secured a large shipment of feathers and had quite a bit of stock remaining (kind of nice when everywhere else you only see "out of stock")!

For those of you asking for synthetic feather extensions, they DO exist!! Yay! They look very similar to the real feathers, but are 100% cruelty free. Please consider getting cruelty free feathers for your hair. Here is a link to an etsy seller, where you can purchase them. Enjoy :)
